Designer Bio —

Soo Joo is an artist from Seoul and New Jersey with a background in furniture, fine art, and biology. She is working on creating applicable methods to design our built environment to satisfy our innate need to feel visually connected to the natural world.

She recently completed her BFA in furniture design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She received academic honors over three years at RISD. In 2016, she had her first solo exhibition at Orange Bada Gallery in Busan City, South Korea and did a summer design seminar about Scandinavian craftsmanship in Copenhagen.

She has interned for sculptor Lee Jae Hyo in Seoul in 2018 and for Hutker Architects in Cape Cod in 2017. In 2018, she was a presenter at Better World by Design, a conference about the intersection of art and technology at Brown University.

Soo Joo creates forms that people intuitively respond to

She combines her education in biology and physics with her design and dance practice to make objects that capture the essence of the human-nature connection.
